MIO – Micaceous Iron Oxide – is considered an anti-corrosive additive used in many kinds of paints and coating and is perhaps the most important barrier pigment used in coatings to protect structural steel due to its unique properties of insolubility in water, organic solvents, alkalis and is only slightly soluble in strong acids, it is non-reactive with most chemicals Micaceous iron oxide is generally soft and it is used in the manufacture of welding rods (electrodes). It is also used as a coating material in the preparation of welding rods.
